Our Mission

     The mission of the Jackson County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) is to reduce loss of life and property and protect Jackson County's infrastructure from all types of hazards through a comprehensive, risk-based, emergency management program of mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery.

The main goal of the Jackson County Emergency Management Agency is protecting our citizens from both natural and man-made disasters.

Through mitigation and preparedness activities, we help Jackson County lessen the effects of disasters and prepare to take action when disasters threaten.

Through response and recovery activities, we speed aid to our citizens who are affected by disasters and help them return their lives to normal.

On-going activities include but are not limited to the following:

Maintaining the Jackson County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) located in the Basement of the Courthouse;

Developing maintaining and revising the Jackson County Emergency Operations Plan to cover all hazards likely to impact Jackson County;

Recruiting and training or providing training for emergency responders;

Planning, scheduling, conducting and evaluating exercises of emergency plans;

Developing and maintaining emergency preparedness program;

Mobilizing jurisdictional and mutual aid resources;

Serve as Focal Point for information remitted to the Jackson County Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC)

Administering the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) for Jackson County.

Developing and presenting programs for schools, civic groups, etc.

Involvement in and promotion of special public awareness campaigns such as severe weather preparedness week.

Conducting Hazard Analysis and Capability Assessment and performing long range planning to improve all hazard disaster preparedness.
